Apparel Edition

Being the fashion freak I am, I feel compelled to show you some design/art related goodies on my radar screen.

The prospect of wearing words pleases me, what can I say? Definitely on my to buy list in the coming years. I think I'd like it in black though. Probably bundle it up with one of the cute blankets they have as well.

You too can have some Mondrian inspired kicks. In classy monochrome, original, and red pallets. If I had the yen, and the aptitude to navigate the website (A year of Japanese which is now rusty isn't doing it for me), I'd go and buy these stat.

Found via The Coolhunter.

Finally, to end this first ever apparel installment. What's a designer without the ubiquitous messenger bag for all their supplies? The folks at Veer have a fun one. I'm partial to the unicorn in the top corner myself.

Anyway, more substance and interesting things ahead next post! I think.

cogito ergo sum

Got some books on actionscript 3.0 and javascript. If the math doesn't get to me, I will be all the more knowledgeable. Tackling actionscript first since it seems more straightforward than Javascript. And since I'm only looking at actionscript more in the context of Flash, I figure I'll start there. With Javascript I want to learn about tweaking code and understanding Scriptaculous a bit more and maybe trying to write some code myself. Which will obviously take more time.

When I'm not trying to make myself the Über-designer, I've been participating in Designboom's Design Aerobics course. Still early in the thing so I'm still trying to make something of it. So far it's been working though.

Will post some design/art things soon I think. Until then. Have a BoomFox I spotted on Ffffound.

Whooop whoop whoop

Just a quick design exercise, to get used to Quark all over again.

Used photos I took a while back. Actually sort of like it enough to try to make it a little project with other American landmarks and the same style guides. We'll see how that turns out. Text for the blurb is from the Ellis Island Immigration Museum

This way to egress

Sorry for the lack of updates so far. Still a bit busy with the job hunt. Once I get settled, expect at least some semblance of regularity.

Nothing big today. Just some news I found really interesting.

I've been out of the art loop for what seems like forever, but I am looking forward to Cristo and Jeanne-Claude's latest project. I was in New York at the time they unveiled their The Gates project and I loved it. Yes, there were critics as there always are, but really, when you saw them up close, it was quite breathtaking.

Next on the news docket, this 'natural crystal' chair. I like the idea, but can't help being reminded of these things.

Finally. Tim Fraser Brown's Manetone is a testament to ingenuity, detail, and too much spare time. The things designers are made of.

Anyway, I'm out. Expect more delicious morsels of news and things I think are neat soon. With the occasional art or doodle to clear the palate.

Boom De Yada

Quick design for fun.

Showing some relatives around downtown Chicago, I had the fortune to spot the giant red ball that's part of Kurt Perschke's RedBall Project. So naturally I took a photo or two of that enormous rubber ball. It's sort of like a big beach ball really.

Looking at the pictures later I thought why not use it as a design exercise, you're not doing too much right now, so why not? Here's the result. I might tweak it one of these days, but I'm happy with it as an exercise.

It really is sponsored by Target, by the way.
